What's Your Status on New EPA Rules?

Seaway Manufacturing, an Erie, Pa., based window manufacturer, reports it offered the EPA lead paint  training classes to 36 installers from its dealer network in January, with 24 currently signed up for a February session.  Other manufacturers, no doubt, have offered similar training programs. Many window and door dealers have pursued the soon-to-be-required training through other channels.

About two months from now, the new EPA rules for contractors working in pre-1978 homes are scheduled to go in effect.  But how far do we still have to go in meeting that timeline?  That's the subject of our poll question of the week.  A similar poll taken in December, by the way, revealed less than half of our readers were even aware of the pending EPA rules.  Let's hope some progress has been made.

Whatever progress has been made, organizations like the National Association of Home Builders and the Window & Door Dealers Alliance are looking for a delay in implementation dates.  They are contacting representatives and others with the message that the industry just isn't ready yet.  What do you think?  Is that a good idea?  Are other changes to the rules needed?  Email me and share your thoughts.
