Andersen Corp. will not distribute profit-sharing checks to its employees this year, for the first time since the Great Depression, according to a report in Pioneer Press

The St. Paul, Minn., newspaper reports that officials with the window and door manufacturer told employees last week that while the company did make a profit in 2009, it "did not generate enough profits to share with employees after paying other major obligations."

At the beginning of 2009, Andersen reportedly gave out checks equivalent to about 6 percent of workers' annual salaries based on the company's performance in 2008. The profit-sharing checks had been significantly larger in past years when window and door sales were stronger.

Marvin Windows & Doors, which also has traditionally given its employees profit-sharing bonuses, told its workforce in December that they would not be getting profit-sharing checks this year.
