The board of directors at Ingersoll-Rand plc has approved a plan to spin off its commercial and residential security businesses, which include Schlage locks and numerous other hardware brands. Masonite International Corp. is closing a door fabrication plant in Kirkwood, N.Y., according to papers filed with the state's labor department. The move, scheduled for February 2013, will affect 64 workers.
The closing follows a November announcement from Masonite that it was losing about $70 million in retail business with Lowe's, primarily in the Northeast and Southwest.

The Earthwise Group LLC, a national network of locally owned, independent manufacturers of windows and doors, has expanded with the addition of JetAlum, based in Kansas City, Mo., as its newest member. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with G-U Hardware, announced a voluntary recall of the hardware supplier's tilt-turn stay arms and side-hung sash hinges. In a November 28 release, CPSC officials advised consumers to stop using the recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.
