Offering the thermal performance of conventional double glazing in the same thickness as single glass (6 mm), Spacia vacuum glazing can be used in applications to balance historical preservation needs with modern comfort and environmental requirements, the manufacturer states. Showcased by Pilkington at the AIA Expo, the glass units combine a sheet of low-E glass with a sheet of clear float glass with the air in between evacuated. Used in Japan for 10 years, the vacuum glazing can also be used as one pane in a triple-pane super window, the manufacturer notes.
