2013 Top 100 Sales Range Category: $50 Million to $100 Million
General Information: In 2012, Soft-Lite expanded significantly, forming Soft-Lite Gorell LLC as a wholly-owned subsidiary to acquire select assets of former Top 100 manufacturer, Gorell Windows & Doors, based in Indiana, Pa., from a receivership court. As a result of this acquisition, Soft-Lite Gorell began manufacturing several popular Gorell product lines at Soft-Lite’s Streetsboro, Ohio plant, including a line of high-performance vinyl hurricane windows that enabled Soft-Lite to significantly expand its market into Florida and other coastal areas.
Soft-Lite Gorell also maintained a Soft-Lite Gorell showroom and office facility in Indiana, Pa., and was able to retain key marketing, customer service, sales and IT staff. The company now employs a complete in-house marketing staff, which will allow it to be more responsive to its dealers’ marketing needs. In addition, Soft-Lite Gorell has experienced great success in retaining the loyalty of Gorell's dealer base, officials report.
Founded in 1934, Soft-Lite is a fiscally conservative company and continues to re-invest profits back into the business, executives point out. The company operates an award-winning 200,000 square-foot plant featuring advanced robotic manufacturing equipment, AAMA test lab and office facility, as well as distribution centers in Baltimore, Md, and Charlotte, N.C. One significant improvement this year was Soft-Lite's addition of its own complete in-house marketing staff, which will allow the company to be more responsive to its dealers’ marketing needs. An agreement was also signed with a well-known company to design Soft-Lite a brand-new company website in early 2013. The manufacturer is continuing to work with its customer base on services such as Improveit! 360 and GuildQuality to enhance their growth and profitability, officials note.
In addition to supporting its dealer and distributor customer base, Soft-Lite continues to expand its turnkey installation service. This enables the manufacturer to capitalize on new geographic market areas where dealers may not have adequate infrastructure to manage the logistics of installing numerous product lines after the initial sale. In the past few years, Soft-Lite has added three paint lines with superior curing stations, a second lamination line, automated packaging systems, and additional robotics to improve quality and increase capacity. Recent product introductions include the Montpellier, Kingsroyal and Primairie French sliding patio door lines Soft-Lite also expanded its already vast selection of glazing options to offer new possibilities that work more efficiently in the Southern markets into which it is expanding. The manufacturer moves up this year from the $40 million to $50 million sales range category to the $50 million to $100 million sales range category.
Soft-Lite is based at this 200,000-square-foot facility in Ohio.
