MI Celebrates Homes For Our Troops' 300th Specially Adapted Veterans Home

MI Windows' partner, Homes For Our Troops, hosted a Volunteer Day and Key Ceremony for its 300th home recipient and participated in the National Day of Service and Remembrance for September 11. The custom home was presented to Army SGT Nate Shumaker and family in Hillsboro, Missouri. SGT Shumaker, a Purple Heart recipient, was severely injured while serving in Afghanistan. Similar to all Homes For Our Troops builds, this house features more than 40 major special adaptations, such as widened doorways for wheelchair access, a roll-in shower, and kitchen amenities that include pull-down shelving and lowered countertops.

The windows MI supplies are specially designed to be easily operated from a wheelchair. The adaptations to Homes For Our Troops houses are important to limit mobility and safety issues associated with a traditional home, including navigating a wheelchair through narrow hallways or over thresholds, riding on carpets, or reaching for cabinets that are too high.
