NFRC Recognizes Outstanding Contributions from Members in 2022

At its Fall Membership Meeting in San Diego, the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) acknowledged four members who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and shown determination to move NFRC projects and priorities forward.

2022 Dariush Arasteh Memorial Member of the Year

The Dariush Arasteh Member of the Year award is given to someone who has innovative contributions and insight that is integral to the development of the fenestration industry. The award recognizes the recipient’s talent, achievements, and notable contributions that support the mission of NFRC within the last calendar year.

Robin Mitchell, of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), is the 2022 winner. During the past year, Robin’s involvement with NFRC has largely been behind the scenes, but very noticeable. Robin has graciously provided a tremendous amount of her time, knowledge, and effort by participating in the tasks for the Blinds-Between-Glass task group and work group, and as the point of contact for NFRC regarding the upgrades to WINDOW/THERM 7.8.  Robin’s role at LBNL offers unique insight and guidance for NFRC to successfully complete tasks.

2022 Emerging Leader

The Emerging Leader Award recognizes an NFRC member who has taken on leadership roles and been identified by members and staff as someone who demonstrates the potential to become an influential leader within the organization.

Sherri Wendt, of Quast Consulting and Testing, is this year’s Emerging Leader. Like previous years’ recipients, including Jesse Winters, Stephanie Skoglund, Steve Coble, and Jean-Michel Dessault, Sherri has demonstrated a commitment to NFRC, the development of our programs, and promotion of our mission.

As stated in the nominations, this person has been helpful leading both the Sidelite and Table 4-3 task groups, participated in development of the NFRC 715 commercial document, and assisted with the testing of WINDOW/THERM. No matter the project, when involved Sherri leads.

2022 Board Service Awards

The Board Service Awards are presented to members of the NFRC Board of Directors at the end of their terms. Because NFRC relies on the time, talents, and expertise of its board members for the leadership of the organization, we value those who have been so generous.

Two outstanding members will be leaving the board at the end of 2022, having completed their terms. Joe Hayden, at Pella, and Charlie Curcija, with LBNL.

This marks the end of Joe Hayden’s second term on the board; he served from 2008-2010, during which he was board chair, and then again from 2017-2022. In addition to board chair, Joe has served on the governance committee, the Board accreditation work group, chaired the board audit committee, and currently serves as vice chair of the Accreditation Policy Committee (APC), Chairs the WINDOW/THERM Approval Task Group, and chairs the NFRC Standards Committee.

Charlie Curcija has served on the board since 2017, during which time he participated in the board finance committee. He also currently serves as co-chair of the Solar Optical Perf Non-Planar Trans System Task group, is a member of the Technical Interpretations Policy Committee (TIPC), and chair of the Thermophysical Properties Subcommittee.

“If the health of an organization can be judged on the quality of its volunteers, NFRC is in top shape,” says John Gordon, NFRC board chair. “Congratulations to Sherri, Robin, Joe, and Charlie. On behalf of the board and staff, thank you. I would also like to thank all of the volunteers doing work for the benefit of the entire industry and the people who rely on the certification that we all work to provide."
