FGIA's 2023 Annual Conference Offers Presentations, Panel Discussions and Hands-on Demonstrations

The 2023 Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) Annual Conference is currently underway in Coronado, California, where more than 500 people are participating in a variety of presentations, panel discussions and hands-on demonstrations. This year's conference is taking place both online and at Loews Coronado Bay Resort from Feb. 13–16, 2023.

The event includes several hands-on experiences for on-site participants. A seismic shake test tour on Monday from the University of California San Diego featured a shake table testing of a full-scale, resilient, 10-story, mass-timber building; a tour of the Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure TallWood project site and facilities; and a viewing of the different nonstructural wall subassemblies on the lower floors of the building. A 90-minute, hands-on hardware workshop allowing conference participants to view and perform various tests referenced in FGIA standards takes place on Wednesday.

Several expert speakers will discuss quality systems in commercial glazing, innovation in the windows industry, safe glass handling and processing, and more. Bill Davis with Vitro Architectural Glass will discuss glass handling and processing safety on Tuesday; Ray Garries of Global Fenestration Advisors will lead a discussion on embracing innovation in the windows industry on Tuesday; and Terry Schaefer from Administrative Management Systems, Jeff Dalaba at Administrative Management Systems, Chris Giovannielli with Kawneer and Helen Sanders at Technoform will provide insight from the perspective of glazing contractors and stakeholders to address how a well-planned and implemented quality systems approach can raise the glazing industry to a higher standard of performance during a panel discussion on Wednesday.
