Most Innovative Window | Universal Series Wildfire Resistant Windows (WFR)
Nominating company: Cascadia Windows & Doors
Cascadia Windows & Doors’ Universal Series Wildfire Resistant window options are among the first fiberglass window systems to successfully pass the California SFM 12-7A-2 standard, demonstrating verified wildfire resistance under direct flame exposure. The system uniquely integrates a fire-retardant resin (WFR Plus), mineral wool integration and tempered glass within a thermally efficient fiberglass frame, enabling ignition resistance and self-extinguishing performance.
Cascadia’s Universal Series Wildfire Resistant window options are being specified for projects in Wildland–Urban Interface zones across Canada and the US. Industry testing has demonstrated that under direct flame exposure—simulating real wildfire conditions—Cascadia’s fiberglass windows prevent flame penetration and maintain assembly integrity, protecting the building interior even when exposed to intense heat. As building codes evolve and wildfire risk expands, Cascadia’s system is helping shift industry practice from prescriptive compliance to performance-based validation.
“Wildfire-resistant windows fill a unique and growing need in the industry,” says judge Heather West.
