2021 ANSI/WDMA Industry Standards for Architectural Wood Doors Available

WDMA's industry standards for interior architectural wood doors were approved as American National Standards last month. The 2021 editions of the ANSI/WDMA I.S.1A-21, Industry Standard for Interior Architectural Wood Flush Doors, and ANSI/ WDMA I.S.6A-21, Industry Standard for Interior Architectural Wood Stile and Rail Doors, have received their recognition from the American National Standards Institute Board of Standards Review and are now available for purchase on WDMA online store.

The 2021 edition reflects the culmination of a three-year revision process, which began with the objective to harmonize the language used across the various woodworking industry documents and to provide additional guidance on the proper storage and handling of architectural wood doors on the jobsite. Based on these changes, architect, designers and specifiers are encouraged to become familiar with the latest edition of the standards and to make adjustments to any boilerplate information that may reference earlier editions of the WDMA architectural wood door standards. Certain revisions contained within the updated documents could have an adverse impact on what the designer think they are specifying and it is the responsibility of any party using the new standards to become familiar with those changes.

The WDMA architectural standards are voluntary industry standards based upon generally accepted industry practices used to provide guidance to architects, designers and specifiers to clearly identify the aesthetic and structural performance of an interior wood architectural door for a particular opening. Both standards apply to architectural wood doors intended for interior application only and are not recommended for exterior use.
