Associated Materials Innovations Unveils Black Exterior Laminate for Vinyl Windows

Associated Materials Innovations has launched its Black Exterior Laminate option across many of its vinyl window offerings. The new finish gives remodelers, contractors, and homeowners a modern, deep black look that resembles powder-coated aluminum, while keeping all the benefits of energy-efficient, low-maintenance vinyl windows, according to a news release.
“We hear it in customer visits and sales calls all the time—black finishes are in demand, but not all hold up,” says Brad Johnson, vice president, operations and transformation for AMI. “Black Exterior Laminate is a durable option backed by extensive testing. As the market continues to move from painted finishes to laminate and other technologies, this launch gives dealers and contractors more confidence in performance when they recommend black windows.”
The new Black Exterior Laminate adds a factory-applied black finish to AMI’s vinyl frames using a multilayer film system that includes:
- A reflective white base layer that helps lower heat absorption
- A laminate surface that is scratch-resistant and water-repellent for enhanced durability
- A sand-matte texture that delivers a powder-coated look with rich, even color
Long-term weather tested to protect against solar radiation, AMI’s Black Exterior Laminate allows for robust handling on the jobsite. It features a thicker laminate face that helps reduce damage during handling and 10-year limited warranty, all backed by a lifetime limited transferable window warranty.
It is available across a wide range of window styles including single-hung, sliders, picture windows, casements and awnings, special shapes, and patio doors. Black Exterior Laminate is available across AMI’s portfolio of window brands, including Gentek, Alpine, and Preservation.
The Black Exterior Laminate system meets AAMA and ASTM standards, including AAMA 303, 307, and 1506 as well as ASTM D4803 and D570—standards that govern color retention, gloss, water resistance, and overall surface performance.
