Congressman Derek Kilmer listened to team members at Milgard Windows and Doors, a MITER Brands company, and discussed local challenges and opportunities at a recent visit.

Goals of the visit

Congressman Kilmer reached out to Milgard in hopes of learning more about the issues they faced as a business that resided in his district.

“I wanted to learn about their ongoing priorities and concerns about doing business in the area,” Kilmer says about his visit to Milgard. “The more we know, the better we can create new policies at the federal level that can provide support.”

The topics discussed ranged from current market conditions, the Inflation Reduction Act, local crime concerns and hiring challenges. Milgard leaders from Human Resources, Operations, Production, Marketing and Information Technology came with questions to the meeting that lasted an hour. They also shared their involvement in the local community through the MITER Foundation, the charitable arm of parent brand, MITER Brands.

What Milgard thought

“Kilmer had some great suggestions regarding employment opportunities through Joint Base Lewis-McChord and our local high-schools,” says Vince Prunty, Sr Director of HR. “We’re anxious for job seekers to view manufacturing positions as a great career with the potential for growth.”
