Erdman Automation and Corning Inc. Collaborate on IG Manufacturing Innovation
Erdman Automation Corp. and Corning Incorporated have joined forces on a new innovation to insulating glass manufacturing. This collaboration integrates Erdman’s new TPS Cohesive Bond (CB) and Cohesive Bond High Speed (CBHS) lines with Corning Enlighten Glass, enabling the production of lightweight, thermally efficient IG units including triple and advanced triple configurations.
About the innovation and what people are saying
Erdman’s CB and CBHS lines are specifically designed to integrate Corning’s ultra-thin Enlighten Glass as the center lite for advanced IG units. These lines leverage a process that applies spacer material to both soda-lime lites of glass simultaneously.
When paired with Enlighten Glass, the result is:
- Lightweight IG units with improved thermal efficiency without sacrificing strength
- Reduced material usage without compromising durability
- Improved aesthetics with slimmer sightlines
- Compatibility with advanced triple designs using standard-depth frames
“By combining Corning’s world-class glass with our new CB platform, we’re addressing weight, strength, and thermal challenges in a single system,” says Morgan Donohue, President at Erdman Automation. “This opens up real, scalable opportunities for advanced triple production.”
Enlighten Glass aims to allow IG manufacturers to produce durable, lighter units that are easier to handle and install, especially in large format or multi-pane builds.
Erdman’s lines reinforce this by:
- Improving wet-out facilitating immediate handling
- Supporting ultra-thin glass without slumping or flexing
- Enabling precise grid placement and airspace control
“Erdman’s cohesive bond system enables an advanced end product for consumers and business owners,” says Chelsea Tracy, Program Director, Architecture, Corning Emerging Innovations Group. “This collaboration is a meaningful step toward broader availability of lighter, more thermally efficient window offerings.”
