Latest Developments for ENERGY STAR Canada Shared During FGIA Fall Conference

At the Fenestration & Glazing Industry Alliance (FGIA) Fall Conference, Jamie Hulan, Senior Director at Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC), unveiled upcoming changes to the Energy Star Canada specifications that will directly shape the future of windows, doors, and skylights. As of July 31, 2026, the Office of Energy Efficiency (OEE) has been moved from Natural Resources Canada to Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC). Hulan outlined the key changes to the specification along with updates on other initiatives and programs affecting windows, doors and skylights.

Hulan emphasized the government’s commitment to guiding the fenestration industry through a multi-level approach designed to accelerate market transformation across Canada. “Canadians are spending larger portions of their income on their energy bills. We noticed a 32 percent rise in energy poverty between 2019 and 2021,” says Hulan. “But there are three pillars of market transformation: information, incentives and regulations.”
