NGA Teaches Children About Windows at National Building Museum Event

On Saturday, October 17, the National Glass Association took part in the Big Build event at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. The Big Build is a free, hands-on festival focused on construction and design. This year's event brought about 3,500 children.

At NGA's booth, children who came by created a window out of popsicles sticks, colored a coffee filter and then had the option to spray it with water to spread the color out. They then attached the filter to their popsicle stick frame and attached it to the larger "city scape" that grew as the day went on. This activity helped the children learn a little about windows and how they contribute to a larger picture of making a building, and a city at-large, more beautiful.

Four NGA staff members and Board member Amadou Sar manned the table with glass samples and spoke with families about how glass is made. NGA member companies Chesapeake Glazing and LGM Glass also had representatives at the event who brought samples for the NGA table and spoke with many families about the industry.

"It was a great event, the kids were very engaged and some were truly interested in glass and the samples our member companies brought. They loved getting to put their window on the cityscape and see the beautiful addition it made to our basic skyline," says NGA Customer Care Specialist Mackenzie Truesdale, who was at the Big Build in-person.
