Pleasants Hardware in Richmond, Virginia, has been selected as Virginia’s 2026 Hardware All Star by Hardware + Building Supply Dealer magazine, earning recognition as one of just 50 independent home improvement businesses honored nationwide.

The annual Hardware All Stars program recognizes one outstanding hardware store, lumberyard, or home center from each state for excellence in areas including innovation, business performance, customer service, and community involvement.

Pleasants Hardware was founded in Richmond in 1915 and acquired by the Taylor family in 2016. The company is now part of the Taylor’s Do it Center family of stores, bringing together two long-standing Virginia hardware traditions.

The Richmond store recognized by HBSDealer is the fourth new Pleasants Hardware location opened since the acquisition and part of a companywide network that has now grown to 22 locations.

What people are saying

“This is the fourth new store we’ve opened since 2016, and each one continues to raise the bar,” says Pleasants Hardware General Manager Darrell Campbell. “What makes that possible is our team. They understand that a great hardware store is about more than having the right products. It’s about knowing the community, building relationships, and being ready to help customers solve problems every day. Being selected as Virginia’s Hardware All Star is a great recognition of that commitment.”

The continued expansion of Pleasants Hardware reflects the Taylor family’s belief that independent hardware can grow and thrive by combining modern retail execution with the knowledgeable, personal service that has defined the business for generations.

“We’re proud of the track record of our company in opening our 22nd location in today’s competitive marketplace,” says Joe Taylor, CEO. “This recognition reinforces our confidence in independent hardware retail and, most importantly, recognizes the people who bring our culture of service to life. Pleasants has been part of Richmond for more than a century, and we’re proud to invest in its future.”
