Challenge
Residential window manufacturers are under increasing pressure to deliver higher thermal performance, meet evolving Energy Star requirements and do it without slowing down production. Intercept® Extreme™ was developed to help fabricators meet that challenge.
Solution
Intercept® Extreme™ is the next evolution of warm-edge spacer technology: an advanced, thermally broken, U-channel spacer engineered for high-performance residential insulating glass. Developed through the collaboration of GED Integrated Solutions, Vitro Architectural Glass and Technoform, it builds on more than three decades of proven Intercept® spacer innovation while raising the bar for thermal performance, durability and manufacturing efficiency.
At the core of Intercept® Extreme™ is a hybrid construction that combines stainless-steel sidewalls with a Technoform polymer thermal bridge. This thermally broken design helps reduce conductive heat transfer at the edge of glass, improving U-factor performance, condensation resistance and long-term IG stability.
Options
For fabricators, the value is clear—premium warm-edge performance without adding unnecessary complexity to the production floor. Intercept® Extreme™ is fully compatible with the GED Intercept® 2.5 high-speed automated production platform, allowing manufacturers to pursue higher-performing window packages while maintaining proven fabrication efficiency.
Intercept® 2.5 also gives fabricators the flexibility to manufacture Intercept® warm-edge spacers from three material options, supporting a clear good / better / best product strategy. That means manufacturers can serve value-driven, upgraded and premium-performance segments from a single production platform, creating more opportunities to capture higher-margin business without investing in separate spacer systems for each tier.
The platform is also well-suited to the seasonal demands of residential window and door manufacturing. During peak periods, its high-capacity automated throughput helps fabricators ramp up IG production while reducing the need for additional lines, extra shifts and excessive overtime. During slower periods, manufacturers benefit from a flexible platform that helps align capacity and labor with demand.
Results
Together, Intercept® Extreme™ and GED Intercept® 2.5 give fabricators a practical path to better thermal performance, stronger product differentiation, improved production scalability and greater revenue opportunity, all on one proven platform.
